Who should I contact in case I encounter a problem?
First, look for the answer to the question in this set of questions and answers. If you don’t find the answer to your question, you can ask, depending on the problem, the people from the university or faculty structures. Also, our Liga AC partners are always available for various questions or curiosities.
Can I transfer to another department?
It depinds, you can find more information about this here: Regulation on the Organization and Conduct of the Educational Process (RODPI), chapter 11, art. 60-62.
What are the credits?
Credits (or ECTS – European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) represent a system of quantification of the results obtained by attending (and promoting) a discipline, but also its difficulty. Each subject has a number of credits. A subject that requires a longer study time has usually a higher number of credits. Credits also have an important role, they are used when transferring from one university to another (whether in the country or abroad) and through them the disciplines previously completed can be equated.
It is important to know that only by passing a discipline you will receive the credits, so failing an exam but promoting the activity during the semester (laboratory / seminar) will not bring the credits of that subject. Also, the number of credits of a discipline can be found in the study contract or by going through the discipline files discipline files. One semester accumulates 30 credits, and one academic year 60.
How many credits do I need to promote the year?
For non-terminal years it is possible to move to the next study year if the following conditions are met:
- at the end of the 1st year you accumulated at least 35 credits;
- at the end of the 2nd year you accumulated at least 75 credits (1st + 2nd years), of which at least 35 credits from 2nd year;
- at the end of the 3rd year you have accumulated at least 120 credits (1st + 2nd + 3rd years), of which at least 35 credits from 3rd year;
There is no credit limit required to pass in semester 2.
To support the license, implicitly the completion of studies, all credits are needed (60 * number of years of study of a program). In other words, it is not possible to obtain a bachelor’s degree with outstanding exams.
How does a subject (course) takes place?
A subject has a duration of 14 weeks of study (7 in the case of the 2nd semester of the final year). Each week (usually) you will participate at courses, seminars and / or laboratories (in other words “activity during the semester”). In order to complete a discipline, it is necessary to pass both the course (by exam) and the activity along the way (tests, homework, projects, etc.). In the case of the exam, it can be of two forms: a normal exam (in session) or a distributed one (an exam covering the subject from the first 7 weeks and another exam for the next 7).
An exam can be repeated in a year of study 3 times, each of which is called “presentations”. In the case of the 3rd presentation, a fee of 60 lei is charged in order to participate. Any other additional presentation (exceptional cases organized) is also charged the same amount. Participation in an exam in order to increase the grade (only if the exam has been passed) is free.
What is the difference between a course, a seminar and a laboratory?
A course is held with all classmates (the entire year), and represents the theoretical part of a discipline, taught by the tenured professor of that discipline.
A seminar is held with group colleagues and aims to deepen the knowledge gained in the course.
A laboratory is conducted with colleagues in the semigroup and represents the practical application of knowledge within a discipline.
What do ‘group’ or ‘semigroup’ represent?
While the courses are held in plenary (with everyone), seminars and laboratories can be held in smaller groups. For this reason, each student is divided into a group (1, 2, 3, etc.) and a group consists of 2 semigroups (1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc.). Usually a semi-group has about 16 students. It is important, especially in the case of laboratories, to participate with your group / semi-group because the number of places is limited.
In the case of a wish to transfer from one (semi) group to another, this can be done on the basis of a reason stated in a written request to the Dean’s Office.
What are tuition fees? How and where I pay them?
You will be subject to payment in various cases: re-contracting an outstanding discipline (at the beginning of the study year), payment of the participation fee for the 3rd presentation of an exam, recovery of attendance at sports or laboratories, payment of the tuition for the current year.
Fees are paid using the internal platform student.upt.ro, access is made with the student email account firstname.surname@student.upt.ro
. In case of late payment, a penalty of 10% is applied, and, in addition, expulsion can be reached later.
